Merrimack River Trail Race - Race Report

Awful.

That's all I have to say about that.

The more I read about this race the better I feel about not being there.

Steve, I feel the same way about my race on the Nipmuck Trail except I describe it as miserable! Better luck next race!

Since when is a 2+ minute improvement over last year's time considered "awful"? With that kind of attitude, I'm glad you chose to run for someone else's team. :)

Gee, I don't understand. You finished looking good. I'm just glad that I only had to tear numbers off the finishers and kept dry and mud free for 2.5 hours.

I think you did GREAT!!

Let me explain. It was one of those races when you know in the first 100yds it would be a long day. Legs were trashed from the start. No real speed, no power, nothing. I struggled to keep up on the way out and pretty much gave up on the way back. Yes, my time was faster than last year but that wasn't my barometer for success. If I had the exact same time but felt strong I'd be happy. I just happened to have a decent time in spite of how I felt. I've been the first to admit I've raced too much lately. I should have skipped Great Bay. I will take it easy for at least 2 weeks, possibly 3 before I attempt another race.

Hey Steve, Yeah, the weather didn't help tired legs for sure, I felt the same way the first couple of miles, and then the hills beat me down. Thankfully those last three miles were relatively easy. Rest up for the next rodeo! :-)
